He has been in Charlie's Angels (2000), Galaxy Quest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), The Green Mile, Choke, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
He has written and will also be in Iron Man 2.
He attended School of the Arts High School (San Francisco) with Margaret Cho and dropped out before graduation.
In 2009 he starred in the critically-acclaimed science fiction film Moon, directed by Duncan Jones, for which his performance was praised.
In 2005, he played a very randy Batman in a short, Robin's Big Date, opposite Justin Long as Robin. Written by Will Carlough and directed by James Duffy, it was shown at the Fantasia Film Festival in July 2005.
In 2002, he played real-life game show host Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
